Real-Time Chemical Pollution Monitoring Launched in Greece
15 April 2025

From 7 to 11 April 2025, the RHE-MEDiation project reached a new milestone with the successful deployment of real-time chemical pollution monitoring technologies in Greece. The MDM team visited the Thriasio Wastewater Treatment Plant to install and test autonomous robotic buoys equipped with sensors for measuring key physicochemical parameters in marine environments.
Following successful calibration in a controlled setting, three field-testing campaigns were carried out in the adjacent Elefsis Bay. During these campaigns, the autonomous buoys Scylla and Cariddi were launched to test real-time data collection from the local marine ecosystem, paving the way for more accurate and continuous environmental monitoring.
The initiative was made possible thanks to the full support of EYDAP and the HCMR. Over the five-day program, Greek researchers participated in dedicated training sessions to familiarize themselves with the deployed technologies and data platforms, ensuring knowledge transfer and local capacity building.
