Smart Cable Water

The SCW water sensor is a multi-measurand and multi-sensor microsystem (MSM) designed for
the real-time detection of toxic chemicals (TICs), pollutants, and complex organic compounds
in water. At its core SCW uses SENSIPLUS, a microsensor platform from SENSICHIPS, which can
interact with both on-chip and external sensors through its adaptable and precise Electrical
Impedance Spectrometer (EIS) and Potentiostat. With its flexible analytical tools and
built-in catalytic interdigitated electrodes based on noble metals and semiconductors, SCW
also serves as an ideal experimental microsystem for advanced discriminative measurement
techniques.

EIS-based analytics harness the RedOx behaviour of catalytic noble metals to enhance
chemical discrimination and measure conductivity and permittivity spectra. The on-chip
Potentiostat enables various Voltammetric and Amperometric measurements, allowing for
real-time pollutant identification. To combat biofilm formation, the device applies
electrode cycling with overvoltage. This makes SCW a comprehensive, multiparametric
microsystem for water analysis. Moreover, the SCW is complemented by machine learning
algorithms for the identification and quantification of the target compounds, an autoencoder
multilayer perceptron (MLP) with built-in anomaly detection and analyte qualification.
